The tradition of the Festival of Chariots began in the sacred city of Jagannath, India. Unusual for Dallas, this festival has become wildly popular thanks to its electric atmosphere. For over thirty years, it\u2019s been held in late spring, symbolizing the arrival of warmth and the season where everything blooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrated in cities around the world\u2014from Fifth Avenue in New York to Piccadilly Circus in London\u2014in Dallas it takes place at Clyde Warren Park<\/strong>. Thousands gather to welcome summer and embrace spiritual culture. The festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with an opening ceremony, followed by a parade through the Dallas Arts District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of colorfully dressed participants dance and sing traditional Indian songs as ornately decorated wooden chariots glide by. The highlight is the chariot carrying Lord Krishna, revered as the Supreme Being of the Universe. Devotees believe that only the chosen\u2014often religious leaders\u2014are allowed to pull it, earning them service to the Lord for eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chariot parade lasts several hours. When it ends, everyone continues the celebration, while parade participants make their way to the Gundicha Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festival-goers can explore dozens of tents serving Indian vegetarian delights. Even dedicated meat lovers agree that staying hungry is impossible here. True to tradition, top Indian performers grace the Dallas stage every year. In 2021, Gaura Vani<\/strong> wowed the crowd with his fusion of Indian melodies and American hip-hop.
